Latest biomethane viability tool and webinar recording available now

February 28, 2025

Our latest webinar, assessment tool and Report 2: Identifying the most investable biomethane project sites in Australia are now available.

The Biomethane Tool is available free-of-charge at https://sam-culley.shinyapps.io/BiomethaneMappingTool/ to help developers and policy makers take forward biomethane development in Australia.

At our webinar on 27 February, the University of Adelaide’s researchers presented their final report and tool ‘Identifying the most investable biomethane project sites in Australia’, as part of our research project RP1.2-06. This webinar recording is a must for anyone developing Australia’s  biomethane industry. The report first contains a spatial analysis of the techno-economic viability of biomethane grid injection projects in Australia. Additional research was undertaken to expand the analysis in two major areas:

  • updating the costing estimates given the barriers to investability identified as part of RP1.2-06 Report 1
  • adding carbon emissions and reduction estimates to the spatial assessment so that Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) can be explored as part of the wider business case.

With these additions, the LCOE (Levelised Cost of Energy) for a biomethane project could be estimated at each point across Australia.

The webinar includes Sam Culley, University of Adelaide who was joined by a Q&A Panel of Suzie Jakobovits, Jemena, Jarrod Irving, LMS Energy, Patrick Lowry, AGIG and Benjy Lee, Consultant (Host)
